Bobby Blue Bland é nato nel 1930 é stato uno dei principali artefici di quello che poi sarebbe diventato il moderno soul sound. Bland possiede una delle più grandi voci del genere soul rhythm-and-blues.Il suo canto passa praticamente senza sforzo dal grido sinistro all' urlo in falsetto a volte nel bel mezzo di una canzone. Nel corso degli anni cinquanta e dei primi sessanta, Bland sviluppò uno stile che riuniva il gospel, blues e un tocco di R&B per arrivare a sonorità del tutto sue. Con i suoi dischi dai marcati arrangiamenti per ottoni, Bland divenne un punto di riferimento del R&B per oltre vent' anni, tanto che può essere considerato tra i dodici musicisti in testa alle classifiche. Bland non ha mai suonato alcun strumento, e neppure composto, é la sua incredibile voce é l' effetto magnetico che produce in palcoscenico e hanno fatto di lui un sex-simbol.
